Looking for volunteers to make the event a success, rain, snow, or shine!

Winter Break will take place regardless of the weather. Volunteers should be comfortable spending the day outdoors in cold conditions. A good winter coat is essential, and you should be prepared to stay active on your feet throughout the day. We are seeking dependable individuals who enjoy interacting with a wide variety of people, and can remain engaged no matter the weather.

What will volunteers do?

Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the event. These are the types of roles we need help with:

  • Event set up: direct partners and vendors to their stations, set up furniture, set up hot cocoa or any table-top stations or displays, hang up or setting up signage. Unloading supplies from cars.

  • Welcome desk: greet attendees, track attendance, help with wayfinding

  • Dog wrangler: assist the Milwaukee Mushers in managing their multiple dogs (holding leashes, moving dogs to another tie-out, taking them to go potty, etc.)

  • “Fire Marshal”: monitor and add wood, tend to fires, safely extinguish fires, and ensure safe handling, loading, transport of Solo Stoves at the end of the event. You may be required to help a child blow out their flaming marshmallow. The job is not thankless. A child may make you a s’more for saving their marshmallow. Must love s’mores or at least pretend.

  • Safety crew: The DNR will plow the parking lots and roads, but we want to be triple sure that there are no slip and trip hazards, for example snow chunks or icy walking paths to the building. As the event progresses, we also want to check for slippery floors indoors. Coordinate the clean up, mats, wet floor signs.

  • Event take down: reset the interior back to normal - rearrange furniture, clean up hot cocoa or any table-top stations or displays, remove signage. Spot clean anything that got messy. Loading things into cars.
